Forging generally refers to the manufacturing process that heats the metal in order to manipulate it into the desired shapes and forms based on their particular designs or concepts. It is often classified according to the temperature at which it is being performed at. Forged parts can range in weight from either less than kilogram to 580 metric tons.

 

Forged parts also usually require further processing in order to achieve a finished part. It is considered an art form started with the desire to produce decorative objects from precious types of metals. As such, hand forging is still similar to the process of forging metal. Just that for hand forging, the process is manually guided by a forger with the aid of the specifically designed equipment which is made specifically for that purpose. Today, forging is considered to be a major world wide industry that has significantly contributed to the development of mankind.

 

Forging is one of the oldest metal working processes till date. It is traditionally performed by a smith using an anvil and hammer. The forge that has evolved over the centuries to become a facility with production equipment, engineered processes, raw materials, products and tooling in order to meet the demands of the modern industry. There are many kinds of forging processes that are available and it varies to the different needs. However, they can be grouped into three distinct main classes. One of the benefits is the fact that the metal produced through this method is usually stronger than metal produced by any other techniques such as welding or casting. The main reason is due to the repeated blows from the blacksmith and the cautious monitoring of the process that results in a less porous material that is a lot better refined than most tactics.

 

One other reason why hand forging might be utilized in the shaping of metal could also be due to the fact that this method allows the material to be manipulated more closely than it would be with another process in this case. For instance, if someone wants to make special wrought shapes of iron with very intricate designs, this can be accomplished with better results by the application of hand forging. Most forging companies can offer either hand forging or other techniques depending on the needs of the client. Even though this type of forging may be more expensive due to the labour and time involved in the process.
