Container Handling Equipment

Container handling equipment is related to storage, movement, control and protection of materials such as products and goods throughout the process of distribution, disposal and consumption. The container handling equipment is involved in the completing system and is generally separated into four main categories such as engineered systems, industrial trucks, storage and handling equipment and bulk material handling. There are several ways to determine whether the container handling equipment is achieving the peak efficiency. They are usually used to increase the output, maximize productivity and control costs. These includes measuring how many times an item is “touched” from the time they are ordered until they leaves the building, capturing all relevant date that is related to the warehouse’s operation and making sure that the operator is using the proper picking technology as well as keeping the system downtime to a minimum.

Storage and Handling Equipment
This equipment is in the category within container handling industry and is usually non-automated storage equipment. Some of these products belong to storage and handling such as shelving, carts and pallet racking. Storage and handling equipment are often referred to as “catalog” items because they have globally accepted standards and are often sold as stock containers out of the containers handling catalogs.

Engineered Systems
They are typically custom engineered container handling systems and some of these automated containers handling systems fall into this category such as conveyors, AS/RS and AGV. These engineered systems are often a combination of products that are integrated into one system and many distribution centers will optimize the storage and picking by utilizing engineered systems such as sorting systems and pick modules.

These are used for processing or handling edible product and ingredients that must be constructed. However, any related materials that need to facilitate through the cleaning process have to ensure that they will not cause adulteration of product during the processing, storage or handling. They must be maintained in sanitary condition so as not to adulterate product.

Industrial Trucks
These trucks are usually referred to operator driven motorized warehouse vehicles and are powered manually by propane, gasoline or electric. They are to assist the container handling system with versatility and they can go where engineered systems cannot. Industrial trucks are also known as forklift trucks and are the most common but certainly aren’t the extent of the category. Additional examples of industrial trucks are stock chasers and tow tractors. Their greatest advantages lie in the wide range of attachments available such as increasing the truck ability to handle various shapes and types of material.

This is another form of material handling and they can be used in a multiple ways from airport to baggage handling systems to warehouses. Conveyors allow efficient and quick transportation for a wide variety of materials which can make them very popular in the container handling and packaging industries. There are many kinds of conveying systems that are available and are used for various needs of different industries. Some other types of conveyors are power and free, towline, chain and roller.

Bulk Material Handling
These are used to store and move bulk materials such as liquids, ore and cereals. Bulk material handling equipment is often seen on mines, shipyards, refineries and farms. The purpose is to transport materials from one of the several locations to an ultimate destination or process material such as handling and concentrating materials for manufacturing logs, sawdust, wood chips and paper mills.

Cantilevered Crane Loading Platform
They are temporary platforms attached to the face of multi-storey structures or multi-story buildings to allow equipment and materials to be directly loaded on or shifted off floor levels by cranes during demolition or construction. They can be rolling or fixed and has a variety of designs that are used for demountable types and fully fabricated.
