Air Conditioning Equipment

Air conditioners basically use refrigeration to chill an enclosed space. It goes through a process called phase conversion. When liquid inside the self contained air conditioning equipment converts to a gas, it absorbs heat. The heated air is cooled by passing through a coil filled with refrigerant or widely recognized as Freon and then distributed to an enclosed environment. Then the air returns to the central air conditioning equipment to be recooled and the phase conversion reoccurs.

Portable, wall/window model, split-system air conditioner, ducted system, inverter technology, cooling only or reverse cycle and evaporative coolers are just a few of the air conditioning equipment. Portable coolers are more like personal coolers while wall/window air conditioners are usually installed in an external wall or in a window. A split-system comprises of a compressor that is installed outside and one or more indoor air outlets. A ducted system is installed outside on the ground or in the roof. Inverter technology is like a conventional air conditioner. The compressor is either on or off. The difference is that the compressor speed can be varied and the set temperature can be maintained within a narrow range.

Conventional air conditioners have major parts. Compressor serves as the electric pump that circulates the refrigerant between the condenser and evaporator coils in a closed loop. Condenser coil facilitates the heat transfer. It removes the heat from the heated gas refrigerant and makes the latter back into its liquid form. Evaporator coil receives the liquid refrigerant and uses the heat around it for the liquid to boil. Its low pressure allows the refrigerant evaporates into a gas again. Expansion valve is found in between the two sets of coils. It regulates the movement of refrigerant into the evaporator. An air filter traps pollen, dust and other airborne particles through the air conditioning equipment. Other parts of an air conditioning system are fan, air handling unit, and drainage system and pan. These parts can be found on other types of air conditioning equipment mentioned above.
