Air Dryers

Air Dryers are devices used for eliminating water vapor and other contaminants from compressed air. These are often found in an extensive range of commercial and industrial facilities.


Compressed air dryer is easy to use, but difficult and pricey to create. A standard compressed air system includes cooling, compression, distribution and storage equipment. The liquid should be drained regularly from the vessel and new medium should be added. The hygroscopic medium is typically in briquette or tablet form.


Deliquescent air dryers do not have moving parts and do not need electrical power operation. The most common applications, as a result, usually involve hazardous, mobile or remote worksites. Deliquescent dryers are employed for eliminating water vapor from compressed air, natural gas as well as waste gases like digester gas and landfill gas.


The deliquescent dryer’s performance, as measured by dew point, is greatly dependent on the gas being processed or air temperature, the cooler the temperature the better the performance.


Refrigerated Dryer
Refrigerated air dryers use two heat exchangers, one for air-to-refrigeration and one for air-to-air. On the other hand, there is a single TRISAB heat exchanger which combines both functions. The purpose of having two heat exchangers is that cold outgoing air cools down the hot incoming air, prevents re-condensation and cuts down the size of compressor needed.


Most manufacturers construct cycling dryers which cools the air when the compressor is off. These units work at lower dew points, usually in the 35-40 F range.


Regenerative Desiccant Dryers
These use a desiccant like silica gel in order to attract and absorb moisture from the air, attaining pressure dew points of minus 40°C and below. These dew points make sure that water does not condense in modern systems; even in extremely low temperatures as the compressed air works.
