The main purpose of windows is to provide natural light and allow passage of fresh air into your house. This does not only reduce energy consumption but also help promote the health of the residents. Temperature can also be managed by attaching a screen on your windows. To prevent too much sunlight or wind coming in, curtains or blinds are mounted in windows.

Curtains are fabrics that are commonly seen hanging in windows. Aside from preventing outdoor matters from coming in, curtains are also used for security and decorative purposes. They give privacy for the house and can provide accent to your room. They come in different styles, shapes, colors, and sizes so you are assured that there is one available that will compliment your room’s theme and design. Another use of curtains is creating home partitions. One can form divisions on a studio type apartment for living room, bedroom and kitchen area with the use of curtains.

Blinds, on the other hand, may contain a series of thin slats or arrive in a single piece. Its four types are roller blinds, vertical blinds, venetian blinds and roman blinds. Roller blind is a single window shade fixed onto a wooden or metal roller that can be pulled down. Vertical blind is composed of thin slats that overlap when closed to effectively block the window. Unlike vertical blinds, Venetian blinds use horizontal slats which overlap and turn as a group when the cord is pulled to seal it. On the other hand, roman blinds form into horizontal folds when pulled.

The uses of both window covers are very similar. The advantage of blinds over the other is its simplicity and it can be easily cleaned. However, if you are the type of person who enjoys decorating the house often, curtains may suit you better since replacing the blinds frequently can be costly.
