Franklin Templeton Investments marked its first presence in Singapore with the opening of a research office in 1990; this research center has since grown to become Franklin Templeton’s global centre for emerging markets fund management.

With the liberalization and opening-up of the unit trust industry in Singapore, the Sales & Marketing office was set up in 1996 to create and distribute unit trusts locally. Franklin Templeton Investments pioneered the umbrella fund structure in Singapore “Templeton Investments Funds” in 1996 with the launch of the first emerging markets fund.

Franklin Templeton Investments subsequently went on to score many ‘firsts‘ in Singapore with the launch of the first truly global fund (Global Growth Fund in 1997), the only high yield corporate bond fund (Franklin High Yield Bond Fund in 1998), the first pure life sciences fund (Franklin Life Sciences Discovery Fund in 2000) and the first unit trust investing in Ginnie Maes (Franklin US Government Fund in 2001).

In 1999, the Singapore Sales & Marketing office became the regional hub for Asia.
