Bird Feeding is the ideal activity for bird enthusiasts, which is the reason why they are very careful in selecting the appropriate bird food. According to studies in Sheffield England, the quantity of garden birds improved with levels of feeding.

There are 2 kinds of bird food advisable for all pet lovers and trainers. These are natural and commercial bird food.

• Natural Bird Food
- Bird Seed is any seed used for feeding birds especially caged birds like love birds, cockatiels, parrots and many more
- Non-Seed Bird Food is suitable for birds that don’t eat seed. Some of the non-seed bird foods are suet, nectar, bread and kitchen scraps.

• Commercial Bird Food
- Non-Farm – a variety of seeds sell commercially in one packaging. It is usually fed to undomesticated birds in public places wherein it tends to pick its desired seeds and leave the others uneaten.
- Farm bird food is pre-blended feeds given to farm birds. Examples are chick grower crumble, egg layer mash, chick starter, egg layer pellet and many more.

Benefits of Feeding Birds

• Bird feeding is an effective way to relieve stress by enjoying the view and its company. This will bring fresh look to the backyard that will eventually give a relaxing feeling.
• This is a kind of fun recreational activity that will give entertainment to all members of the family.
• Taking bird as a pet controls and prevents insects from the backyard.
• Birds insist to help in forestation for better tree production with less effort of planting.

Some of the bird feeders are having trouble in keeping bird food supply. Pet lovers and enthusiasts always consider maintaining the freshness of the bird food to keep it appetizing for birds. There are various and ideal way on how to store bird food for a long period of time.
• Choose the appropriate size of container.
• Choose containers that are made from sturdy and durable materials, this will prevent container from unnecessary breakage that may lead air from entering and will affect food freshness.
• Chose a container that is tightly sealed for preventing the rodents and insects in accessing the bird food.
• Store the container in room temperature.

Remember:
Never use toxic chemicals such as pesticide and toxic spray near the bird food container. Do not forget to thoroughly wash and disinfect the container before refilling it to keep the birds safe.
