Beer is an alcohol containing beverage usually made from malted cereal grain as barley, flavored with hops or some other substance to impart a bitter flavor and brewed by slow fermentation. It is prepared by mixing barley, water, hops and yeast. Each ingredient undergoes a series of biochemical reactions and then will have to sit and ferment for weeks until it is packaged. In contrast to its known disadvantages, moderate drinking of beer can also provide some health benefits.

It is rich in many vitamins of the B group and a good source of minerals such as magnesium. The Vitamin B6 found in beer aids to maintain correct blood sugar levels that allow you to keep your diabetes under control.


Moderate consumption of beer has cardio-protective properties and helps lower the chances of stroke. Vitamin B6 also prevents the build up of homocysteine that can make you more susceptible to vascular and heart diseases. It increases good cholesterol level which reduces the chances of blood clot. Drinking beer moderately can reduce the risk of developing kidney stones and gall stones. It helps in preventing calcium deposits in the kidney that when mixed up with salts and other minerals usually turn into kidney stones. Beer is considered an effective treatment for insomnia as it tends to make one drowsy. It contains nicotinic and lactoflavin that helps promote sleep.
